Sam still jams with Zen drummer Pat Rideaux, whom he's played
with since childhood when he learned Hotel California from a book on his first guitar.
Sam has been the driving force and principal writer behind several bands. He formed Premonition with
Pat and bassist Adam Barnhart in high school, which later enlisted vocalist Rowland Ebright and guitarist David Plunkett.
When Pat left for Zen and Rowland moved on to other projects, Sam's wife introduced him to drummer Dave Selvey.
They began jamming together and now play together exclusively. So they auditioned vocalists until they found Steve Olds,
reformed Premonition and soldiered on.
In the years to come, that band broke up as David moved on and Adam left for a high-paying job in the Bay Area.
However, Sam still worked on studio projects with Rowland, who enlisted him for some jam sessions in 1997 to briefly reunite
him with Adam. As a result of these sessions, he started working with bassist Mike McGarvey, and the two, along with Dave,
hunted down long-lost vocalist Steve Olds to put together the original version of StoneBlue.
Sam's gear: 1960 Les Paul custom guitar, Ibanez SG guitar, GHS boomer strings and medium thin picks,
Korg AX-1000 stereo effects unit into an ADA MP1 pre-amp and Gainiac pre-amp, Carvin EQ2015 15-channel stereo EQ, Carvin DCM 1000-watt stereo amp to a Carvin 412T and a Carvin 412B full stack cabinets.
